Object Tracking using Joint Visible and Thermal Infrared Video Sequences Internal report

چکیده
Particle filter methods based on color distribution can be used to track non-rigid moving objects in color videos. They are robust in case of noise or partial occlusions. However, using particle filters on color videos is sensitive to changes in the lighting conditions of the scene. The use of thermal infrared image sequences can help the tracking process, as thermal infrared imagery is not sensitive to lighting conditions. This paper presents a particle filter based method for object tracking using automatic cooperation between the color and the infrared modalities. As the infrared and the visible image sequences are acquired with different cameras, a pre-step is spatio-temporal registration. After spatio-temporal registration, the proposed method is able to continuously track the target despite difficult conditions appearing in one of the modality. Our cooperative tracking method is successfully applied on several experimental datasets. Different test sequences are presented, including tracking in the visible video with the help of the infrared modality, or tracking in the infrared with the help of the visible modality. Comments and future prospects raised by this method are finally described. keywords: tracking, particle filtering, thermal infrared, color distribution, image sequences ha l-0 03 98 48 8, v er si on 1 24 J un 2 00 9

TRANSFER REPORT Thermal Infrared and Visible Spectrum Fusion for Multi-modal Video Analysis
While traditional image and video processing focus on extracting knowledge from data of a single modality, such as visual spectrum or thermal infrared video, this report investigates the benefits and challenges of capturing and analysing multimodal video. It specifically targets the two modalities of visible spectrum and thermal infrared video. A novel capture device has been developed to captu...
متن کاملThe VOT2015 and VOT-TIR2015 Challenges Submission Report
In this report, we present the details of our submission and the evaluation results on both the visual object tracking (VOT) 2015 and the thermal infrared visual object tracking (VOT-TIR) 2015 challenges. The goal of these challenges is to compare short-term model-free single-object trackers, and serve as the de factor state-of-the-art evaluation platform for visual object tracking. In particul...

متن کاملMulti-Sensor Tracking using a Scalable Condensation Filter
Surveillance and tracking systems typically use a single colour modality for their input. These systems work well in controlled conditions but often fail with low lighting, shadowing, smoke, dust, unstable backgrounds or when the foreground object is of similar colouring to the background. With advances in technology and manufacturing techniques, sensors that allow us to see into the thermal in...
متن کاملChapter 6 Face Recognition in the Thermal Infrared ?
Recent research has demonstrated distinct advantages of using thermal infrared imaging for improving face recognition performance. While conventional video cameras sense reflected light, thermal infrared cameras primarily measure emitted radiation from objects such as faces. Visible and thermal infrared image data collections of frontal faces have been on-going at NIST for over two years, produ...
